Autism spectrum disorders (ADS), show an apparent lack of interest and relational reciprocity, a tendency towards isolation and social closure, apparent emotional indifference to stimuli or, on the contrary, hyperexcitability to them, difficulty in establishing direct eye contact. People with autism have difficulty starting conversations, answering questions and partecipating in group life and games. However, these people are capable of bonding and loving those who care for them by interacting with their needs, but subsequently have difficulty maintaining a lasting emotional relationship and this causes them frustration and disappointment. Enormous progress has been made in research for the treatment of autism, also through educational meetings and scientific conferences, activities for students in secondary school and universities, open day throughout the country for the recognition of an early diagnosis and a timely pharmacological and healthcare treatment. Exercise of the body and mind, a healthy diet, social relationships and a positive outlook on life are significant prevention factors. Recent studies support that some areas of our brain, including the hippocampus, the centre where memories, are capable of producing new neurons, which could motivate the partial regression of memory decline in the case in which there are no particularly serious lesions in the central nervous system.
